Jazz Day


Background

International Jazz Day is an annual event organized by UNESCO on April 30. This day is observed to celebrate “the virtues of jazz as an educational tool, and a force for peace, unity, dialogue and enhanced cooperation among people.”

International Jazz Day was proclaimed in November 2011 at the UNESCO General Conference. This day highlights the power of jazz as a force for freedom and creativity, promotes intercultural dialogue through respect and understanding, and unites people from all corners of the globe.


Actions and Programs

Many programs and events are conducted across the globe to mark this day. Music concerts were conducted at different places, jazz parades in streets, jazz education programs, flash mobs, lectures, film screening, programs in TV and radio, etc.
