Background

Every year April 23 is observed as UN English Language Day. In 2010 UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) established this day. The observation aims to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity as well as to promote equal use of all six of its official working languages throughout the organization.

The first UN English Language Day was celebrated on 23 April 2010.


Actions and Programs

Many programs and activities are conducted at different levels to observe this day. Competitions, essay writing, poetry recitation, drama presentation, seminars, etc. are some of the events conducted on this day.
