Background

Every year March 21 is celebrated as International Day of Forests. This day is observed to raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests and of trees outside forests.

Without forest no life can exists in earth. People depends on forests for their livelihood. Animals, plants and insects found the habitat for their living in forests. But now the deforestation continues at an alarming rate so that we need to spread the importance of forests.

On 28 November 2012, United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21st March as the International Day of Forests through a resolution. The first International Day of Forests was observed on March 21, 2013.

Actions and Programs

The day is celebrated with various events and programs to raise awareness of the importance of forests. On this day countries, organizations, companies, individuals organize many local, national and international activities or programs to achieve the purpose. The programs includes but not limited to tree planting campaigns, seminars, conventions, discussions, video campaigns, social media campaign, symposiums, art exhibitions, competitions, tree planting programs at different institutions, etc.
