Every year October 9 is observed as World Post Day. The date is the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in the Swiss capital, Berne.

The day aims at giving awareness of the role of the postal sector in people’s lives and its contribution to social and economic development of countries.

Actions and Programs

On this day many programs and activities are conducted with the aim to spread the awareness about postal activities and its contribution. Many countries observe this day by introducing new products and services.

Many events like exhibitions, cultural and sports events, conferences and seminars, display of postal day posters etc. are conducted on this day. Some posts mark their celebration by giving awards to their employees for their service. UPU in cooperation with UNESCO organizes international letter writing competition for young people.
